Alarms - The reminder utility for everything else we do on the computer, with the right combination of power and simplicity.
Alarms allows you to drag and drop files onto the Alarms Timeline at the point in time you you wish to be reminded. When the alarm notification triggers the Alarms icon in the menu bar "flashes" a notification alert. The best part is the notification gets your attention without getting in the way of the task at hand.

Simply dragging any item to the top of your screen will open the Alarms Timeline and allows you to schedule a notification by dropping it on the Alarms Timeline. past due items are shown in the try on the left hand side of the Alarms UI. If you want to defer a past due item, simply drag it to the new time.



Alarms supports various document types such as documents, pictures and mindmaps as well as folders, web links, Evernote Notes and even Skype contacts equally well.  If you want to remember to make that critical call, drag and drop the Skype contact on the Alarms Timeline.  Alarms has a free version, Alarms Express, as well as a full-feature version, Alarm Pro, which provides integration with iCAL & Growl.  




Alarms is a solid tool and great addition to any Junkie's stash.

FreeNAS  - Putting that old hardware to work It seems that every technology junkie has a stash of old hardware and devices. W hat to do with these old systems seem to be the ever popular question.  There is a direct proportion between the usefulness of hardware and it's age.  The older that hardware the less flexible your options until you end up recycling or  upcycling  it (hopefully you are not tossing your old hardware in the dump ) Well this junkie is no different - In going through some I have had sitting in a corner for a few years I found a couple of old desktops systems.  One of these was my a circa 2005 Windows XP machine. Sweet - Now what to do with it?  I can run um..well .... Recovering "Lost" Evernote Notes

A junkie is never one to keep good stuff to themselves.  At The JunkieZone we are not either  We have written about Evernote before , it is a great tool to keep track of all of the miscellaneous information you have.  Receipts, meetings notes, user manuals, useful web pages, files, and oh so much more.   Overtime as a true Junkie, I have come to rely upon Evernote to house all sort of information.  However, when/if an Evernote failure occurs it can be devastating.  Do not fret however, the Junkie is here to help you recover from two of the biggest Evernote losses --> Deleted Notes and Overwritten Notes.
